The healing power of ginger-lemon tea

Updated: Aug 2, 2021

My new favorite drink without alcohol for both home and away! I drink this a lot. Often as tea and sometimes as lemonade when the tea is cooled down. In this way you can also do it longer with a full pot of ginger-lemon tea. I think it's a shame to use the ginger and lemon only once and afterward throwing both the lemon and ginger away.

I always peel the ginger. I make sure I buy a large piece of ginger with a diameter of 3 to 4 centimeters. Nowadays they have these larger pieces of ginger at the Lidl. I cut them easily into slices and I always squeeze out the lemon. The longer you have the skin of the lemon in the tea, the more bitter the tea becomes. And I don't like that very much myself. Because I have an unprecedented desire for healthy products, I went looking for the advantages of both ginger and lemon for you!

Ginger

Ginger is a root bulb belonging to the ginger plant. As early as the Middle Ages, the tuber was used to flavor dishes. Meat is tenderized by ginger because fresh ginger contains a protein-splitting enzyme. Ginger can be purchased as a fresh tuber, but also as ginger syrup or ginger powder.

Ginger calms the stomach and therefore has the ability to reduce nausea

When you are very nauseous and you feel you can't eat or drink anything, you can stick a piece of ginger behind your ear. The active ingredients in ginger go directly through the thin skin behind your ears.

Ginger stimulates digestion

It has a beneficial effect on the gastrointestinal system. The pancreas is stimulated by ginger to produce digestive enzymes that help break down fats and sugars. Because saliva production, bile, and gastric juices are boosted by ginger, the stomach contents will go to the intestines faster and the feeling of bloating will decrease. In addition, ginger improves contractions in the intestines.

Ginger strengthens the immune system and prevents infections

It works antibacterial and therefore protects you against colds and flu viruses.

Ginger is a powerful anti-inflammatory

It prevents chronic diseases that can slowly slumber in your body. It has a purifying effect on the lymphatic system. The lymph glands help your body to get rid of harmful substances, for example if you have inflammations. Because of this, toxins will not get a chance to accumulate in your organs.

Ginger improves the blood circulation

This means that oxygen is more easily and better supplied to all cells. This also keeps your body warmer, perfect for colds like me!

Ginger has a relaxing effect

It has a calming effect on the body and mind.

Lemon

A lemon is too sour to eat out-of-the-hand. The juice gives dishes and drinks a fresh taste. Moreover, the juice can prevent discoloration of apples, or avocados for example. The peel is particularly aromatic and can be finely grated and added to (vegetable) dishes. The flesh enhances the flavor of other foods and activates the taste buds.

Lemon as a morning ritual for the intestines

Many have been doing it for years; every morning a slice of lemon in a glass of lukewarm water. It puts the bowels to work so that you have a regular bowel movement.

Lemon is a vitamin C boost

Lemons are not only full of vitamin C, but they are also rich in potassium, calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium.

Vitamin C, in particular, is often needed to allow your body to absorb other minerals better. Think, for example, of iron. By consuming many vitamin C, the body is better able to absorb iron from food.

Lemons are good for your skin

Lemons help to produce urine. In addition, you also drink more water (with lemon!) which helps you produce even more urine. This makes you urinate more and therefore more toxins leave your body. But not only that, because you produce more urine, the development of gallstones and kidney stones can also be prevented!

Lemons keep you zen

When you are stressed, you use up more vitamin C (and magnesium) than normal. In the marrow of the adrenal glands the two hormones adrenaline and dopamine are produced. These two hormones are also known as the 'fight' and 'flight' hormones and provide extra energy in case of stress and danger. Your adrenal glands can become exhausted when there is too much stress. So make sure you take a healthy dose of vitamin C every day so that the cells in your adrenal glands can maintain their vitamin C levels.

You just urinate the surplus of vitamin C

So don't be afraid that you will get too much vitamin C. In principle, this is not possible.
