You know you found your one and only favorite breakfast when you eat it every day, but with a little variation so it never gets boring!
This breakfast is really easy to make, very tasty, and very nutritious as well! Plus, it’s Ayurveda proof, because you don’t make use of dairy.
The base of this breakfast is always:
- Oats
- Almond milk
- Cinnamon
Because I eat this breakfast with my boyfriend every morning, he uses the other half of the banana and apple in his bowl.
I understand that it is difficult when you are alone. You could also keep both halves in the fridge for the next day. But that is entirely up to you!
However, throwing food away is not an option!
So we have now as a base:
- Oats
- Almond milk
- Cinnamon
- ½ banana
- ½ apple
This breakfast is really easy to make, very tasty, and very nutritious as well! Plus, it’s Ayurveda proof, because you don’t make use of dairy.
To keep it interesting I always vary with different fruits, nuts and seeds.
Different fruits to add: Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, pears, khaki’s, figs, orange, etc.
Different nuts to add: Hazelnuts, Almonds, Walnuts, Para nuts, etc.
Different seeds to add: Pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, etc.
On top: Some coconut flakes to make it even more interesting!
Ayurveda
From an Ayurvedic point of view, this breakfast fits perfectly into the Ayurvedic way of living. Fruits, nuts and grains can be eaten together. According to Ayurvedic teachings, adding dairy to fruit is not that healthy. That is why I always use almond milk.
Gastrointestinal Problems
Many gastrointestinal problems, such as bloating after meals, gas, indigestion, stomach ache, start with poor dietary combinations. Or you may simply feel tired and listless after a meal because your stomach has a tough job digesting your last meal. Finally, improper food combinations can eventually cause toxic residues (ama) in the gastrointestinal tract that are the cause of most ailments. So plenty of reasons to take a closer look at what you put in your mouth during a meal. Which product groups combine well with each other? And which combinations cause a conflict in the stomach? After all, you don't put the white, the coloured and the delicate washing in your washing machine at the same time - it becomes a mess.
Fruit
Fruit is easily digested and on average leaves the stomach within an hour. If you combine fruit with other food groups, this usually leads to gas and a bloated feeling. Fruit combines particularly badly with milk and sour fruit combines lousy with yoghurt. It is best to eat your banana or apple between meals and not to combine it with other products. Eat your fruit at least one hour before your next meal.
Cereals
Cereals such as rice, wheat, barley, couscous, bread and spelt do not mix well with animal proteins such as meat and dairy products. Cereals do go well with vegetables and vegetable proteins, such as nuts and beans.
